Somerset Academy athlete Deion Pierre has committed to play football at Samford. Pierre is 6-3 215 with 4.6 speed. He has played almost every position in high school, but is expected to play linebacker for the Bulldogs. Deion led his county with 104 tackles, was a 3-year captain, played in the Public vs. Private All-star game, and capped off his high school career with a 102 yard interception return for a touchdown. Deion was also being recruited by Alabama A&M, Findlay University, University of South Dakota, and University of North Dakota. What made Samford the right fit?
It’s not like home up here, but once I got here they showed me although this is not home, we’re going to make it feel like it, and they showed me how much they cared for me like a 3rd parent.
When I watch Deion’s Hudl highlights I see a guy is who bigger and more physical than most his opponents. When he play offense, he was just more gifted than those trying to tackle him. On defense, while the same is true, he shows his ability as an excellent tackler coming up into the hole or out in space. This is the first defensive commitment of the class for Samford who return 4 of their top 5 leading tacklers from 2013.
